My Secret to Success

I’m back guys!

I have officially resurrected the awesomeness that is my blog to provide anyone who may bother reading this with a few minutes worth of distraction from whatever you are meant to be doing.

I apologise to anyone who went through sleepless nights wondering “why oh why has Louise not blogged recently?” And I have already prepared my excuses:

  • I have commitment issues. Like all things that I come to enjoy, I got tired of writing this blog.
  • I am in year 12 and doing seriously hard subjects and I do enough creative writing/bullshitting in English  that it more than made up for my lack of blogging
  • I forgot my password

See how good my excuses are? You should see me at school;

  • “Sorry I’m late… I missed my bus” (probably not a good idea if you’re late to a class after lunch)
  • Sorry I’m late… The staircase moved and I had to come via the dungeons”

Speaking of school, I have got almost all my half yearly exams back. Just waiting on 1 Unit Studies of Religion (Don’t judge me guys, it’s compulsory at my school) and I am actually pleasantly surprised with my results so far.

So being the awesome person I am (hence the blog title “Louise is Awesome”) I came up with a few handy hints, my Secrets to Success if you will, for anyone who wants to own their HSC.

Quality not Quantity

The platinum rule of exam studying. I know most parents/teachers/peers say that you have to spend hours a night studying, but truth be told I never have and I never will. I am a person who gets easily distracted. I spend hours on Facebook, Twitter, the Gods of Football, staring at blank walls, ANYTHING to procrastinate from studying.

Now don’t get me wrong. It is definitly important to dedicate time to studying, and deactiivating your facebook account wouldn’t hurt. But quality of study pwns over quantity. Overall, is there any point in slaving away for 5 hours a night and staying up until the wee hours of the morning, on something that is going to get you nowhere? I say no.

Make your notes interesting

I am an expert at this.

I would tell you, but I would rather show you… through interpretive dance PICTURES!

Year 12 – The ‘Important’ Year

Today was the first ‘not-so-official‘ day of Year 12. You know, the couple of weeks where the teachers pretend they’re not starting on the HSC syllabus (even though everyone does it)?

I like to call it ‘limbo’

And being the first day of ‘limbo’, we were subjected to the “this-is-a-very-important-12-months-for-you” speech.

May or may not actually be my teacher

May or may not actually be my teacher

Oh yeah. Because this isn’t the first time we’ve heard that one…

Year 7:

This is an important year for you… It’s your first year in high school. You’ve gone from being the big fish in a small pond to being the little guppies in a huge ass ocean. You’re going to annoy everyone when you can’t find you way to class, and there is a hit-list going around the school with your names on them. Don’t mess up!

Year 8:

This is an important year for you… Congratulations, you survived! You’re no longer the midgets new kids, there are now people dumber and more annoying than you. You can no longer use the excuse of getting lost for being late to class. Don’t mess up!

Year 9:

This is an important year for you… and not just because most of you are turning 15 and can watch M-rated movies! Teachers now know your names and you have a reputation amongst your peers and the other grades whether you like it or not. It’s the year before your School Certificate so pay attention! This could come in handy. Don’t mess up!

Year 10:

This is an important year for you… You can get your L’s, drop out at the end of the year, and its School Certificate time! Your first taste of external testing, how exciting. Once again, most people hate you. You annoy the year 12s by whinging about having to do your teeny weeny School Certificate and pretend to be as awesome as the senior students. Sorry, not yet. Don’t mess up!

Year 11:

This is an important year for you… Your preliminary course. Think of it as a warm-up for the HSC just around the corner. You decided to stay in school and you’re the new seniors. You love abusing your new found position of power. Unfortunately, this means you have responsibility. Oh and by the way, nothing you do this year counts towards anything really, we just like wasting your time like this 🙂 Don’t mess up!

Year 12:

This is the most important year of your young lives… The HSC! *pause for dramatic effect*. This is the be all or end all. Sure, you’re the oldest people in the school and everyone looks up to and respects you now. The teachers adore you, and you have some serious power over all the other students. There’s just that small problem of the end of year exams which control the rest of your life! Just don’t mess up, or you’re screwed.

That, my friends, is what school is like. Every year is just another ‘important’ step into becoming awesome university students.

I can’t wait until this is over.
